Atmospherically Spiritual
‘Where the spirit does not work with the hand there is no art’
Leonardo Da Vinci.
I was born in Cork, Ireland. I graduated with honours from the Crawford College of Art and Design, where I obtained a Diploma and Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art. I also went onto study a Higher Diploma in Adult Education in Mary Immaculate College Limerick. I studied the theory and principals of Art Therapy in St. Anne’s Hospital Cork. For the past eighteen years, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide spectre of people with both intellectual and physical disabilities, including schizophrenia. People fascinate me!
Thus my working life has brought both influence and context to my creative journey. I communicate effectively and clearly through painting about aspects of my life. I have been painting for the past twenty years I am energised by the soulful process. My subjective nature, in essence is my storytelling ability letting the viewer decode a personal narrative.
My paintings infuse harmony or upset in a conceptual manner. The visual language expressed within my work always holds a message.
I have travelled extensively around the world over the past number of years. I credited these trips with personal visualisation for my paintings.
Passion is the force in which I unleash my creativity! My work is unique in style. It is visual poetry and richly atmospheric, I am continually maturing and evolving as an artist. Mood and atmosphere are key components held in my paintings. Each viewer will hold an individual interpretation and be touched by the mood that is expressed. The colours I use are diverse, sometimes muted and softened or bold and strong. The work is accomplished by using layers in brush, sponge, palette knife. My paintings are sometimes soft, quiet and mysterious but also hide a quirky wit. I take inspiration wherever I find it. It is intensity loaded with emotions. It generates a sense of intimacy or isolation capturing the viewer’s own interpretation.
The intention in my subject matter is to create from memory abstracted expressional pieces not in a representational format. The colours and content, composition all contribute to the mood it delivers. Emotions are captured such as hate, love, depression, despair which emanates from each piece.
My work is refreshingly distinctive in execution in comparison to my Irish contemporaries. I draw from the soul. I empower to move the viewer emotionally. The work strives to quiet the conscious and awaken the subconscious for flashes of inner insight. To tease out more than the eye can see at first, an invitation to the imagination to satisfy the channel to inner self.
I do what I love. I create signature, original once off paintings. My pictures will do the talking. I consistently reflect, look and absorb. I learn and up skill daily. I invent as I go. I am hyper focused and an ultimate optimist. I am gaining a strong reputation as one of Ireland’s most promising Spiritual Artists. I am an established exhibitor across galleries in both Ireland and England. I have in the past had work purchased for private collections worldwide.
‘You use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul’ George Bernard Shaw.
